Does anyone else have problems with any of their Boigas periodically going off their food. Both my cyanea and cynodon have done this a couple of times now. THis time its my cyanea and ithasnt fed for around a month now. At first it was due to slough so I didnt worry, but Ive now tried small mice, medium mice, fuzzies, rat pups, quails warmed up and at room temp, Ive wiggled them gently, taunted the snake with them, left them hanging on a branch, left them in secluded areas of the viv, tried splitting stomachs and brains all to no avail. Ive checked the temps regularly and there has only been a slight change in the daytime background temps, not enough to make any difference. Humidity has been fine. Im now wondering if it can be something to do with mating behaviour. Does anyone else have any Boigas that go off their food now and then for no obvious reason?

I have no experiences with this, but a friend of mine had. Especially with his B.cynodon. The B.cyanea that isn't eating right now, is that a male? You often see this with male snakes. They have their mind aimed at only one thing and that's mating. My male Philodryas baroni did that this year as well. He didn't eat for over three months!! As long as the snake isn't getting very thin or unhealthy in another way, I shouldn't worry or stress the snake and yourself too much.
For what it's worth...

Oh, Im not too worried just yet. He has been weighed so I can monitor him over time. I tend to leave my boigas to their own devices rather than handle thewm much as i feel they can easily get stressed. I thought I would post about it though as others may have the same problems and we can all learn from each other.

I almost never handle my Boigas. Only when I really need to.

Hi Maelyn,
it's recent shedding could be the reason why your cynodon didn't want to eat. Maybe it will start eating in a week or so.

My gemmicinctus went off food for four months last year starting in september. He appears to be doing the same thing again. He has otherwise been one of my best feeders, eating 2-4 mice a week.
